African Black Soap, is soap made from the ash of locally harvested plants and barks such a plantain, cocoa pods, palm tree leaves, and Shea tree bark. Black soap is traditionally made in West Africa, mainly Ghana, from secret old age recipes passed down from ancestors.
Generally, in Ghanaian culture, skin care is food and food is skin care. Let's us explain that a little better.
In the rural areas everything needed is gathered from the land and harvested naturally using techniques that do not alter nature, harm nor destroy it. Our techniques of creating skin care are so natural that it is food grade. However, even though it is safe to eat - we do not recommend it, as ash is not a staple food in any country.
Not sure if you have the “real deal”? One rule of thumb to look for: authentic African Black Soap should look brown and not black.
Apply the kneaded soap either directly to the skin surface you would like to clean or onto a damp sponge and lather up! Be sure to scrub or rub in circular motions gently! This soap also makes for a great shampoo, dish washer, face cleaner and so much more! Make sure you avoid your eye area and if using to wash you sensitive areas be sure not to leave the soap on too long as it may begin to sting - yes, you can feel the disinfecting!
